NEW edition of the International Designations and Chemical Composition Limits for Unalloyed Aluminum PUBLISHED

The 2018 edition of the International Designations and Chemical Composition Limits for Unalloyed Aluminum is now available. This newly revised version, popularly known as the Gold Sheets, was last updated in 2007. Key updates to this publication include:

• Clarification of the prefix P as well as the testing and reporting requirements for unalloyed aluminum not made by a refining process.

• The Chemical Composition Table has been reformatted to group together each basic unalloyed aluminum and its variations.

• Updates were made to the appendices and Declaration of Accord to clarify language

• An appendix was added to include information about keeping registrations and designations current

To purchase a hard copy of the publication, visit the Aluminum Association’s online bookstore on the Association’s website. The cost for the printed and downloadable versions is $100 each for non- members and $50 each for members.

The 2017 edition of The Aluminum Association manual, Aluminum Standards and Data Metric (SI) is published. This indispensable book is the most complete source of information for aluminum mill products and contain information on chemical composition limits, typical properties, mechanical and physical properties and standard dimensional tolerances for commonly used commercial alloys. Also included in the document are information on comparative characteristics and applications, quality control, cross reference of aluminum mill product specifications, and Terminology Section.  Also published are the revised ANSI H35.1 / H35.1(M)-2017_American National Standard Alloy and Temper Designation System for Aluminum, ANSI H35.2 / H35.2(M)-2017_American National Standard Dimensional Tolerances for Aluminum Mill Products, ANSI H35.3-2017_ American National Standard Designation System for Aluminum Hardeners, ANSI H35.4-2017_ American National Standard Designation System for Unalloyed Aluminum and Reaffirmation of H35.5-2013 (R2017)_ American National Standard Nomenclature System for Aluminum Metal Matrix Composite Materials.

The Metric (SI) version of the Aluminum Standards and Data is available in print and digital download form and may be purchased from the Aluminum Association online bookstore at The cost is $125.00 each for members and $250.00 each for non-members.

Note:  Errors were found in ANSI H35.2 and ASD documents.  Errata are available on the website at

The Aluminum Association completed tentative temper registration of 2111-T8 Rod & Bar.

Note: Tempers for Aluminum and Aluminum Alloy Products, both U.S. and Metric registered since the last edition of the Yellow and Tan Sheets are listed in the addenda of this publication, available at

Following is a list of new projects initiated since the last report, currently under review by The Aluminum Association’s Technical Committee on Product Standards.  All parties that could be affected are welcome to comment on individual proposals:

The majority of the Association’s standards activities are carried out by the Technical Committee on Product Standards (TCPS) in accordance with The Aluminum Association procedures governing these activities.  Product Divisions may also form technical committees to work on specific standards that affect their products.  For example, the Electrical Division has a Task Group of AA Representatives on National Electrical Code Panels.

To request a copy of a project or to discuss placing a representative on TCPS, contact  John Weritz at

Builders have safely used aluminum wiring for more than 40 years.

The National Electrical Code has permitted the use of aluminum wire since 1901, a mere four years after the first recognized national electrical code was published in 1897. AA-8000 aluminum conductors have more than 40 years of reliable field installations.
